it was like digging for gems or whatever it is you dig for

I thought the potato plants had died because over the last week or so, they've started to curl at the edges and hadn't looked so great, no matter what I did. So I decided today to just pull them out, chalking it up to a garden section that just didn't work out.

Boy was I ever wrong. All in all, after some digging, I pulled 4 pounds of potatoes out of the ground. It would have probably been more like 8 had some of the largest ones not been rotten.

Also, the yellow squash was totally expected, the green? Not so much. I moved some leaves aside and there it was. Imagine my surprise -- I didn't realize I'd planted two varieties!

Sadly, though, I think that what I've planted won't make it through the hot South Texas summer, so I might have to replant in the Fall if this stuff dies off. It's okay, though, because it just means I get to start all over again.
